Human Nature

I’m gonna talk about Psychology!

The Kitty Genovese case study was in response to a murder. One day, Kitty Genovese was murdered, several people saw, none did anything to stop it. This demonstrated the Bystander Effect, the theory that if you’re in a crowd and see something, you are unlikely to try and stop it, assuming somebody else will do so. Potentially very dangerous.

The Rat Utopia Experiment is particularly relevant to today. Scientists put several rats in a large area where they’re given anything they’d ever need, the rats formed hierarchy’s, and slowly but surely began to stop reproducing, they started fighting each other and the whole system fell apart, ending in a disaster.

The Stanford Prison Experiment was designed to test what people do when they have power. They put several teenagers in a fake prison, giving half the role of guard and the other half prisoners. The people started lighthearted but as time went on the guards got more aggressive and the prisoners were even getting called by their numbers instead of their names, those who wanted to leave were denied (which goes against experiment guidelines) Eventually, the experiment ended and nobody was happy.

Little Albert was an experiment where a child was shown a rat and watched as it was beheaded with a horrible noise playing in the background. The child became afraid of any white fluffy creature and unfortunately died a few years after the experiment after spending his time in fear.
